Went down the children’s sledding slope in my nightie this morning.
It was a rather cool trip down the sledding slope.

Getting the day started this morning, it seemed to have more “to do” things than minutes in the day.

Hair cuts for the boys being the priority.

I got dressed, all but my dress, and slipped my nightie back on, not wanting loose hair on my dress for the day.

Then I tried doing the balancing act of all of us trying to eat breakfast, give 3 boys hair cuts, followed by baths – it got a little . . . hairy.  Chaos would probably describe the morning best.

I tried to keep the littles out of the hair mess, but I think we still ate some hair for breakfast.

But the job got done.

And mess cleaned up.

With the wonderfully warm weather, 29 degrees this morning! I bundled the children all up in their snow gear, and sent them out the door.

I got started on the pile of dishes.

Then Amber came in to report to me that Jasper had lost his boot.

Quickly, I stuffed my bare feet into tennis and went to rescue the bootless boy.

There stands Jasper in snow up to his knees. He was crying, nose running, and tightly clutching his little boot to his chest.

Passed out some love, wiped the nose and got the boot back on.

Then I had to take a moment to watch each of the children fly down the snowy hill on their sleds. One child gets off balance and lands on their face – but jumps up and goes again.

The cat was feeling frisky and would sit in the middle of the sledding track, then jump out of the way before the sled got to her. One time the sled about got to her before she saw it coming and her frantic efforts to get out of the way had us all laughing at her goofy cat antics.

Then I just had to take my turn at sledding down the hill – nightie and all. Glad I did. Children were having so much fun and mommy’s involvement added to it.

All too soon baby’s hands got too cold and Momma’s nightie seemed rather thin – so the two of us had to come in to the warmth and crackle of the fire.

Turkey Time

Al was just ready to walk out the door for work when a flock of turkeys come trotting up our driveway. They must have been on a mission, they were moving through rather quickly.

It is not usual to see 2-3 flocks of turkeys each day, made up of hens.

This was a flock with several nice big toms.

Al quickly decided to change direction and grabbed his gun.

Time to fill that turkey tag!

Stepping out on the front porch, he only had to wait a moment until one of the toms was in a place he could shoot.

One shot, and one turkey down. Dinner coming up.

Another lesson that morning for the children with butchering and learning body parts, then collecting feathers.

We soaked the turkey in a bucket with brine for 24 hours . . . in our shower. One of the delights of a small house, where DO you go with such things?

Now our turkey has been consumed – and it was good!!

Adventures not so Fun

We had some winter yuckies going through the troops.

Wilson couldn’t sleep one night – he was so clogged up and coughing.

After laying there listening for quite some time, hoping he would be able to rest, I finally got up to help him.

Took him downstairs and made a little tent under a sheet. Then propped him up, so that his upper body was elevated.

Placing my essential oils diffuser under the tent with him, I put oils in it to support the respiratory system.

Wilson was quite pleased to be sleeping under a tent, with the light of the diffuser and wonderful scent of the oils.

Within 15 minutes he had stopped coughing and was fast asleep. Why didn’t I do that a whole lot sooner?! Do love our oils.

If only I could go back to sleep so quickly. Laid awake for hours.

The adventures of Motherhood.
